Make no mistake as these trends are not new inventions in technology that may or may not be a hit with the audience. Trends in marketing can be traced down to the customer, with the advent of big data and improved customer targeting, a lot of research is being done and trends for the next year depend on the success of marketing campaigns the previous year.
Without further ado let’s look at the
TOP 5 Digital Marketing Trends for the year 2017.

Google’s update last year was meant to boost mobile friendly(responsive) sites and later on Google started advocating mobile first design (beginning your website design with mobile in mind). So make sure your website is responsive to avoid losing traffic due to poor functionality. They offer a whole new environment and are more user-friendly as they are interactive. Plus, they also offer more data on user behavior which lets you tailor content as per user interests.
Mobile only Social Media:
As mobile only apps like Instagram, Snapchat, Periscope continue to rise in popularity, make sure you are using these platforms effectively. Don’t take these with a pinch of salt and ignore them because trends come and go but staying on top of the current trends is what will set you apart!
Augmented and Virtual Reality ( AR and VR):
Accenture Interactive managing director, Tim O’Neill says “2016 was the mainstream debut of VR technology, and in 2017 we expect that VR, regardless of the delivery method, will start to enhance and extend many industries and services. As these experiences become more commonplace, VR will become a more common part of the brand marketing toolkit.”
AR offers an immersive experience and the world saw what it could offer when Pokemon Go became as viral as it did. 2017 will continue seeing the rise of AR and VR with gaming apps. But, it can be extended to several other uses, like real estate where people can get a feel of the property from home or imagine being taken to the Eiffel Tower (virtually!)
Sitecore’s Anderson says “While the growth of the mobile phone and tablet markets continues to expand, the types of connected devices beyond them are growing five times faster. Wearables alone are expected to grow by 11 times over the next five years.”
In the past few years, we’ve seen several devices like Apple watches, Fitbits etc rising in popularity. With many iOS apps being optimized for the Apple watch, and Wearable Technology dominating the health trends for 2017, wearables will definitely be a huge trend in 2017 and marketers will try to leverage this by using them to reduce the gap between online and offline marketing as the digital world becomes an integral part of the regular world.
